2005:
An unexpecting 12 year old joins his father for a trip to Asda.
While waiting for his Dad to complete a crazy shopping spree he lingers in the DVD aisle, just looking for cheap thrills and something to buy. That's when he sees it; Doctor who Volume 1. He's heard his mother talk about the show in it's classic era and now here it is, a brand new, twenty first century version. Curiousity takes over and he urges his father to buy the DVD.
But of course the answer is no, and as this 12 year old has never used the internet to full use just yet, he has to save up over the course of the next month to afford the DVD for himself.
Returning to Asda he is amazed to find not one but two volumes are out now! The second with a picture of a Dalek on the front cover, he's heard of the Daleks before but never seen them in full flow. He snatches the case excitedly and is astonished to find that it is on a buy one get one free offer, meaning one thing; 6 full episodes of Doctor who, ready to be watched by him!
Arriving at home a whole world of time and space suddenly errupted onto his screen and before he knew it he'd seen all of series one and the Doctor had done this cool thing called regeneration and another man was left to play his role.
Christmas 2005 and the now 13 year old was happy to find that this David Tennant bloke knew how to be the Doctor, he was as good as, if not better than that Eccleston guy.
Fast forward 5 years into the future;
2010:
The 17 year old has watched plenty of classic who and fallen head over heals in love with the cliffhangers. As time progressed cliffhangers became his favourite part of the show and he is looking forward to seeing what the wonderfully clever Steven Moffat has in store with his cliffhangers, The time of Angels comes and goes and guess what...the cliffhanger...well...it wasn't great.
The next two parter comes along with the worst cliffhanger the poor teenager has ever seen! What is happening to his favourite show? Of course the finale manages to pull off a cliffhanger he's been waiting for and thank god everything is back to normal...or is it.
2011:
Series six begins and Steven Moffat explains they will kill off a main character within ten minutes into the new series! Wow now that is amazing...but of course it ends up being the Doctor...which leaves the 17 going on 18 year old confused, the entire series is based on the death of a character that literally cannot die in Doctor who and the story arch fails to impress the struggling teen.
What has happened to Doctor who? Has it lost the excitment of the Russel T. Davies era or are the Pond's getting on his nerves?
In 2012, my dear friends, the 18 year old watched and although the series came close to being the show he knew and loved, well it was disappointing to say the least and the Christmas episode only looked good.
And now we have hit 2013 and the new series continues with an episode this poor 19 year old still cannot seem to 100% enjoy like the olden days. I admit to you now faithful reader, that this 19 going on 20 year old is me. My name is Allan James Rafferty, I have been a Doctor who fan since 2005 and since 2011 have been confused as to whether I have out grown the show or if it has changed to be worse, that is why I have decided to enter my life size TARDIS (yes I have one) and go back in time, revisiting the first series I watched and posting my reviews on here, to see if I can find excitment in the show I knew and loved once again.
